How To Maintain Your Rubio Monocoat Wood Finish

Rubio Monocoat is classified as a "hard wax oil" and was originally formulated for use on hardwood flooring. The result of many years of research and development by the fine folks at Rubio Monocoat has yielded an incredible product that truly brings out the rich, natural colors of the wood and highlights the intricacies and nuances of the grain. Here at Treepurposed, we use Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C almost exclusively for our furniture, millwork, and countertop builds.

When it comes time to clean **the** surfaces finished with Rubio Monocoat, you have two choices: a damp cloth—suitable for most spills and general cleaning—or the Rubio Monocoat Soap. The Rubio Monocoat soap is a highly concentrated solution intended to be diluted with water. Therefore, even a small bottle of the soap goes a long way once properly diluted and stored in **a** spray bottle of your choice. Simply mix **1/2 tbsp of Rubio Monocoat Soap with 750ML of water**. Once mixed, mist the surface you'd like to clean and wipe it away with a dry towel.

Using harsh household chemicals on your Rubio Monocoat finish can break down the molecular bond of the finish and, in some cases, strip it entirely from your surface. Needless to say, this is not good. When properly cared for, Rubio Monocoat shouldn't require a full refinish. However, if you do notice areas of the wood looking a little worse for wear, you can refresh the problem areas with a product called Renew!

Renew is a ready-to-use product that rejuvenates, restores, and safeguards surfaces treated with Rubio Monocoat. It reinstates the surface to a freshly oiled condition. Employ Renew when the surface begins to feel excessively dry or rough, or when the finish has diminished due to heavy usage. Areas with high foot traffic, such as heavily used kitchen countertops, dining room tables, and spaces around kitchen sinks, tend to experience faster wear compared to other applications. Over time, these areas may develop spots that appear "dry" as the finish thins out. These worn patches will seem parched or rough to the touch. An additional indication of compromised protection is the inability of liquids to form beads on the finished surface. You can revitalize these areas individually as needed using Renew. Simply apply Renew to the dry-looking region, let it react for **3-5 minutes**, and then wipe it dry, making sure to eliminate any excess. Allow the area to air dry for **4-6 hours** before resuming light use. Utilizing Renew when required will extend the lifespan of your Rubio Monocoat-treated surfaces and ensure that maintenance remains uncomplicated.
